Significance and Losses
Prior to the Hundred Days Offensive, the German Reichstag, or parliament, wanted peace, but a peace that would see Germany increase its territories into parts of Poland, Lithuania, Belgium and Luxembourg. The only way they could do that was to attack at the Western Front so convincingly the Allies would agree to their terms. That was the intention of the Ludendorff Offensive that ultimately failed but which sparked the Hundred Days Offensive by the Allies.

So, had the later part of the war favoured Germany, the entire map of Europe would now look very different. But the Hundred Days Offensive was also important for Canada, not only because it brought about an end to the war that everyone was sick of and sickened by, but also because it was a victory that could have only been accomplished with the Canadian Corps in the forefront.
