Neuve-Chappelle
Context
After four months training in the hellish rain and mud of Salisbury Plain,
the first wave of Canadians soldiers arrived in France in early 1915, where they
were welcomed by a battle-ravaged British army. In February and March, |
 |

they settled into the Armentieres region of the Western Front and learned
the rules and survival tips of life in the trenches from their British brothers-in-arms.
While the Canadians were well accustomed to mud, they had not experienced live
fire, snipers and artillery aimed above their heads. |
